Embracing Imperfection as an Artist

The self-judgement that comes with creating & how to overcome fear❤

Being an artist is a deeply personal journey. We pour our hearts and souls into our work, whether it’s a story, article, book, art piece, painting, sculpture, photography, song, poetry, or any other art form.

Many of us struggle with judging our own creations and our expression. Especially on a platform like Medium, where we have the freedom to be ourselves, self-judgment can become a hindrance to our creative growth.

I want to share my experience with self-judgment as a writer & storyteller and how I want to embrace imperfection and let go of excessive self-criticism.

As a storyteller, first, I get to hide behind the characters and stories. They are close to me, but it’s easier to separate myself from my stories and send them out into the world.

For example, I didn’t find a glowing piece of meteorite in my backyard and got psychic powers from it, like my main character from Starfall, or turned into a siren, shapeshifter, and a fairy hybrid in the middle of the spiciest supernatural war like my main character from Hidden Blood.
